CPD Points for Membership Activities
PGA members are required to gain a minimum of 100 CPD points to attain 'Class AA' status with the PGA.
For educational seminars, workshops, courses, etc a guideline is used of 5 points per hour of educational content. The same provision is usually made with external providers as well as PGA administrated programmes.
Relevant 'product' training and attendance at relevant Golf Trade shows is generally awarded half the number of points allocated for an educational seminar (see below for further details), or 15 points for a day, whichever total is more appropriate.
Qualifications are awarded points on the basis of guided learning hours and level of study.
External CPD Points CPD points can also be gained by attending courses which are organised by providers other than the PGA, as long as these courses are from a recognised training provider, and are in a relevant subject area. Members can apply for points to be allocated following attendance at an external course, and this application will be assessed on the basis of content and duration of the event. A photocopy of the course certificate needs to be submitted for assessment- if the certificate does not include details of the training provider, date and duration (days/hours) of the event, then evidence of this must also be provided- a copy of the agenda or programme for the event will usually include this information. You will also need to complete and attach the External CPD application form which is found at the bottom of this page. A letter from the training provider will also be accepted as evidence of attendance, provided that this letter contains the information specified above and is on the letterhead of the training provider. External Qualifications As well as courses, PGA Professionals are encouraged to continue with further qualifications that will be benefit their personal and professional development. Using the most appropriate night schools, colleges, universities or other providers, the PGA Professional will be awarded points according to the rigour of the qualification as well as the normal course length.
A table is attached (bottom of the page) with details of the points that can be earned whilst completing one of the various qualifications.
Points for Product Training & Exhibitions/ Trade Shows
Product Training
The PGA recognises that PGA Professionals need to avail themselves of the most up to date information possible, across a range of products that are relevant to their particular role in the golf industry. To that end, educational courses & qualifications and conferences, as well as product training and attending relevant exhibitions all play a role in arming the PGA professional with the knowledge and skills that they need to do their job to the best of their ability.
However, given the specific nature of product training (e.g. attending a Titleist & Footjoy product seminar) only half the number of points will be awarded that would be given for an ‘educational’ seminar of the same length of time. The reasoning behind this decision is that where information is shared on a specific product(s), this may not benefit the Professional in improving their all-round appreciation of a broader range of products in the way that a seminar with a more all-encompassing approach might do so. In this instance the knowledge and skills learnt may be more reasonably applied to a number of different products in the same line/area.
Therefore, where educational seminars carry in general 5 pts per hour of content, product seminars will carry only 2.5 pts.
Exhibitions & Trade Shows
The same basic principles are applied for anyone attending an Exhibition or Trade Show at home or abroad, where specific learning outcomes and documented evidence of proceedings (available for all educational courses) cannot be gathered, but where if used appropriately the visit by the PGA Professional can prove to be beneficial to their ongoing development and business dealings.
Please note however, that in certain circumstances The PGA does reserve the right to amend this ruling without giving prior notice. Notifying the PGA of external activities
